How it works
Adipocytes are the body's specialized fat storage cells. They transform fatty acids into triglycerides, which they store in the form of lipid droplets called adiposomes. When the amount of fat to be stored (free fatty acids) increases, our body's 20 billion or so adipocytes enlarge (hypertrophy). If their increase in volume is not sufficient to accommodate the surplus fat, the hypertrophied adipocytes end up multiplying, giving rise to numerous congeners.
